An optimum conceptual design involves consideration of capital, fuel, financing and O&M costs, while meeting performance, environmental, regulatory, and schedule requirements. We place particular emphasis on maximizing the benefits associated with utilizing the latest, high efficiency, commercial processes and technologies while evaluating and reducing risks to achieve your business objectives. We provide custom and packaged preliminary engineering services for developing conceptual power plant designs and evaluating new generation, repowering alternatives and asset acquisitions. We have the tools and the resources to support your project requirements.
These services assist owners, owner/generators, owners' engineers, developers, project consortia, architect/engineers, equipment manufacturers, and financial institutions to react responsively, competitively, and decisively to today's dynamic, global marketplace. In partnership with EPRI and SOAPP Services, power project developers take advantage of a unique combination of technical and business services, including: Power Generation Technology ScreeningPower generation technologies screening, including natural gas and coal fuels, new and repowering of existing units, and optimization and sensitivity analysis based on capacity, environmental and financial criteria and business goals. Plant/Project EvaluationsEvaluation of power generation technologies, including co-production and cogeneration alternatives and repowering of existing units, and optimization and sensitivity analysis based on capacity, environmental and financial criteria and business goals. Combustion Turbine & Cycle SelectionEconomic and technical evaluations based on performance, size, cost, and emission information for different combustion turbine models from major manufacturers using site- and owner-specific information such as fuel costs, emission limits, operating histories, and duty. Conceptual Design: Combustion Turbine PlantsDevelopment and economic and technical evaluation of a series of conceptual designs for a project, identifying the best choice based on project-specific criteria. These conceptual designs will include heat and material balances, equipment size, preliminary design drawings, cost estimates, and financial analyses based on specified site, fuel, operating, and economic parameters. Plant Cycle OptimizationTechnical and cost evaluations, and optimization of process design for combined cycle and cogeneration power plants, including mass and heat balance calculations based on a specific site, fuel, and operating parameters. Power Plant Equipment EvaluationsEconomic and technical evaluations based on performance, size, cost, and schedule information for various pieces of power plant equipment using site- and owner-specific information such as gross plant output, unit capacity factor, steam conditions, and fuel type. Design & Financial Reviews, including Independent Engineer ReviewsTechnical and financial reviews of new, repowered, and existing plants. Preparation of reports, including Independent Engineer Reports for financial institutions. Preparation and review of component and system specifications, assistance in vendor selections and monitoring of vendor performance. Plant & Equipment SpecificationsPreparation/review of plant, component and system specifications, assistance in vendor selections and monitoring of vendor performance. Long Term Maintenance AlternativesEconomic evaluation of maintenance alternatives, including long term maintenance contracts cost/benefit assessment compared with self-performed or third party maintenance providers, assessment of parts life and long term availability and cost, life cycle maintenance cost and impact on project pro forma.
