SOAPP-CT integrates process design, costing, and financial analysis of
combustion turbine simple and combined cycle power plants, including
cogeneration. You specify a project and plant design by simply selecting a
combustion turbine model and the other major new equipment and inputting
some key unit, site, fuel, and economic data. SOAPP-CT then validates your
input, configures the plant, sizes and costs the new equipment, and
performs detailed performance and financial analyses of the resulting
conceptual design.
SOAPP-CT is complemented by 13 Technology Modules. These Technology
Modules are powerful, decision support, information, and training tools,
presenting basic principles of a power plant process or equipment
component, along with detailed information on technology alternatives.
System performance and relative costs are calculated for each technology
alternative as a function of several user-defined sensitivity parameters.
How can SOAPP help?
SOAPP-CT and its supporting Technology Modules provide important tools
that facilitate the evaluation of combustion turbine based power plant
technology options and the development of conceptual level plant designs.
SOAPP-CT integrates technical and financial analysis in a single tool that
fully automates many labor-intensive tasks. This frees you to focus on the
critical issues that define a successful project in a competitive market
place. Significant opportunities for reducing generating costs, increasing
net income, and reducing risks are left untapped in many projects. The
complex, often hidden, interaction of site conditions, economic and market
factors, and financial strategies with equipment, process, and plant
design create these possibilities. Your key to uncovering these hidden
opportunities lies in using SOAPP-CT to evaluate a wide variety of
equipment choices and design criteria over the range of expected economic,
market, and financial conditions.

You can use plant conceptual designs created with SOAPP-CT to evaluate
project feasibility and strategies, to support financial decisions or
technology selections, to aid in strategic planning, and as the starting
point for bid specifications and final design.
Major Product Features
SOAPP-CT structures your input into four separate data sets. This
enables you to quickly construct and analyze different project scenarios
by creating a range of options and sensitivities and then mixing and
matching different data sets. This facilitates optimizing the unit
configuration for project specific criteria and evaluating the sensitivity
of the design to a broad range of project uncertainties.
With access to current data on over 83 combustion turbines, including
both 50 and 60 Hz models greater than 20 MW, you specify a plant
conceptual design and project financial analysis by entering data on the
unit, site, economics, and fuel.
- Unit Data
You select major equipment and specify key design criteria, including
any cogeneration requirements, in the unit data set.
- Site Data
You specify ambient conditions, environmental criteria, and
certain site-specific economic inputs, such as land costs, labor
productivity, and tax rates, in the site data set.
- Economic Data
You enter items such as book life, tax life, loan period,
debt fraction, interest rate, and capacity, steam, and energy price
forecasts into the economic data set.
- Fuel Data
You define the primary and secondary fuels, along with the
usage factors and price forecasts, in the fuel data set.
The integration of the performance analysis with financial analysis
permits quick evaluation of cost-performance impacts, allowing project
developers and planners to balance unit performance, capital cost,
competitive positioning and return on investment.
Analysis Capabilities
The analyses performed by SOAPP-CT are completely integrated. You input
key project site information, environmental requirements, and financial
parameters; select key process and equipment technologies and design
criteria; and SOAPP-CT validates your inputs, configures all process
connections, and performs heat and material balances. The heat balance
calculations perform an entire unit heat and material balance and
determine flows, state point conditions at each connection port of each
component, and the power output of the generating unit. SOAPP-CT uses this
information to size plant equipment, using algorithms derived from design
practice and manufacturers' data. Plant construction cost estimates are
developed by SOAPP-CT from equipment cost estimates correlated to the
sizing information. O&M and fuel cost estimates are in turn derived
from the preceding results and additional correlations. Finally, SOAPP-CT
performs a financial analysis using the completed conceptual design
information.
You can choose to have SOAPP-CT generate any or all of the following
conceptual design deliverables:
- Design criteria
- Heat balance
- Performance and emissions summaries
- Equipment list (includes sizing)
- Process flow and piping diagrams
- Electrical single-line diagram
- General arrangement drawings
- Capital cost estimates
- O&M cost estimates
- Financial analysis (including cash flow and pro forma)
In addition to the standard reports generated by SOAPP-CT, the drawings
can be exported as AutoCad compatible files, and all other reports can
be either exported as delimited text files or "copied and
pasted" into other programs for additional analysis or reporting.
SOAPP's family of interactive software products provides you with
information on current power plant technologies and enables you to quickly
create unique, detailed, project-specific plant conceptual designs.
Comprehensive process and equipment models, combined with sophisticated,
embedded engineering expertise enable our software to make engineering
decisions automatically, freeing you to concentrate on only the most
critical process, equipment, and design criteria selections. SOAPP's
software helps you target project design simultaneously to project
financial requirements, market and site conditions, and fuel and
consumable prices.
Benchmarking studies show improvements of up to 50 to 1 in reduced
engineering time using SOAPP-CT. You can leverage this productivity gain
to achieve much greater benefits, since a detailed plant conceptual design
and pro forma can be developed with little effort. You can run numerous
scenarios evaluating different technology choices and design criteria over
a range of probable economic conditions, project financing parameters, and
market conditions. This type of strategic analysis can create a
competitive advantage and mitigate risks by enabling selection of the most
advantageous technologies and design criteria for each project. Case
studies using this approach have shown that increases in potential project
earnings of up to millions of dollars per year can be achieved using
SOAPP's products in this manner. |
